Just visited Fletchers for one of their themed evenings. This time was an especially unusual one - a Finnish evening inspired by the Level 3 students recent visit to the country. Six wonderful courses for less than £30. I couldn’t believe how good it was. First course was a shared bread and dip course - sour dough bread and salted flat bread accompanied by crawfish mayo, flavoured butters and a selection of pickles (delicious). Next came white fish gravlax accompanied by a fennel and liquorice mayo - seems this very unique flavour is very Finnish. I wanted more! This was followed by a succulent salmon dish in a dill fish broth - so good! And then came the piece de resistance - a perfectly grilled venison loin with braised venison also, potato puree, pickles and gravy. I thought I’d died and gone to heaven (no - just Finland). Two dessert courses followed. I don’t have a sweet tooth but my two friends were nearly ‘daggers at dawn’ fighting for my extra portion. The first sweet course looked so terrific that even though I didn’t eat it, I just had to take a photo. I nearly weakened at the last course a chocolate mousse egg but had it snatched from me before I could give in. What a terrific evening! Why oh why don’t more people know of this outstanding restaurant?
